From Risk to Opportunity: Private Directions in Climate-Smart Agriculture

Agriculture is among the most vulnerable of all sectors to climate change. In many countries, climate risks facing agriculture threaten food and water security and the livelihoods of low income inhabitants. Increasing climate variability, particularly shifting precipitation, drought, and heat waves challenge the economic viability of important crops across the planet.

Climate risks also drive the demand for a wide range of private resilience solutions that boost agricultural productivity and enable to farmers and others to better “weather the storm.”

These private solutions include products and services aimed at greater water efficiency, more localized and focused weather forecasting, new crop rotation and diversification models, drought and invasive-pest resistant crops and seeds, among many other opportunities that can generate employment and business opportunities in rural areas.
