Sustainable and Resilient Cities: Actors and Innovative Approaches

Today, more than 3.7 billion people live in cities. This number is expected to double by 2050, confronting cities with multiple challenges to resilience in the face of climate risks.

At the same time, a more sustainable and inclusive process of urbanization must deliver improved quality of life and better opportunities for more citizens. In cities, the demand for climate resilience includes products and services that people need to help protect themselves and their property from the impact of climate risks, such as back-up generators, highly efficient (including solar-powered) air conditioning, storm resilient building materials, flood control and drainage, insulation against heat, early warning systems, new analytics and applications of climate data, flood and heat resistant housing, to name just a few.

The demand for private resilience solutions offers growing opportunities to many local businesses in cities in Latin America and the Caribbean and across the globe.
